2016 Surgeons’ Conference

Since 2007, BethanyKids has been training physicians from across Africa through its COSECSA-accredited pediatric surgeon training program. We have graduates now working in Madagascar, Ethiopia, Sierra Leone, Kenya, and Uganda. In some cases they are the only qualified pediatric surgeon in their country. They are separated by vast distances and often work alone, so the need for fellowship and encouragement from fellow surgeons is considerable.

With this in mind, our surgeons gathered together this past week at Kijabe, Kenya for our first Annual Surgeons’ Conference. Over several days of fellowship and teaching they were able to share experiences, discuss difficult surgical cases, and learn from each other. There were also professional and spiritual workshops provided by guest speakers from the US and Canada.

It was a time of true joy and refreshment as our surgeons were able to reconnect and learn about each other’s settings and challenges. They were also joined by our three current trainees, who hail from Rwanda, Cameroon, and Tanzania.
